Shang-Chi artist shares the coolest Marvel concept art ever

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Pushes fans into a mysterious part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that had yet to be introduced. Featuring Simu Liu in a nominated role, shang chi Fans gave many dragons, even putting their toes in horror when introducing the primary antagonist of the picture.

If you’ve seen the flick, you know that the now-defunct Dweller-in-Darkness joined a swarm of soul-sucking beasts that haunt the mysterious city of Ta Lo, stealing the souls of their defenders. As it turns out, the soul-sucking monsters could have been a lot more intimidating. On Tuesday, visual development artist Jarad Marantz shared some early concepts of the creatures, making them look like a zombified centaur.

“Here’s One of My Favorite Unused Creatures Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” Marantz said on another Instagram post. “So it was during a blue sky phase, trying to figure out what the first wave of monsters would look like fighting villagers. Not many people realize that filmmaking is a very organic process and as we are designing the scripts are being refined, so the parameters of the assignment can change at any time.”

The artist went on to interpret this version of the dragon henchmen as actually fighting in hand-to-hand combat with Ta Lo’s men.

“In this pass I was working on a version that would fight hand-in-hand with villagers and would also be able to fly and crawl,” Marantz said. “So much fun! Incredible time working with a team at Marvel Visual Development and the head of the team, my friend Andy Park.”
