"Not the movie I thought it was going to be"

Full spoiler alert for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness below, Soon after watching the film, filmmaker and professional fan Kevin Smith is back with full-blown thoughts on Marvel Studios’ latest release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Smith noted that he was surprised that Vision did not appear in the film and that John Krasinski’s Reed Richards was the worst-kept secret on the Internet. Overall, while Smith clearly enjoyed it, he felt that the film could not deliver on the promise made to its title. Speaking on his latest Fatman Beyond podcast, Smith said just as much.

“I think ‘Multiverse of Madness’ was rooted in me before I saw the movie: ‘You’re gonna see so many iterations of these characters,'” the director said. Tha Disney World and gave you Six Flags… in reference to ‘Multiverse of Madness It’, ‘Well, I guess we went to more than one universe, but we didn’t really spend a ton of time (it) .'”

He continued, “It wasn’t enough to make me feel like ‘I didn’t like it,’ I liked the movie that I had a great time. I think I went along … when I did ‘Multiverse of Madness’ ‘ read, ‘I think it’s going to be a fun house just like the characters from Marvel… it, it felt like Spider-Man: No Way Home 1.5 And that’s fine for me, I love it….it was thinner than I imagined and you know again the internet is all about reading and believing gossip sites. I was positive that Tom Cruise would be in the film as the Superior Iron Man. Then it’s not like ‘And I hated it because he didn’t,’ but that was the level of expectation that was being presented, like ‘You haven’t seen anything yet!’ And we’ve seen something similar.”

Smith went on to say that he hopes Marvel Studios will continue to work with Raimi and thinks Raimi and James Gunn are “Marvel’s ideal filmmakers.” He noted that with the title of the sequel and adding Raimi behind the camera he thought it would blow up the 2016 film, when in fact it didn’t.

“I was like oh like, ‘Well this is gonna blow up the original Doctor Strange out of the water,’ but at the end of the day it ain’t. This is a good companion piece but the original Doctor Strange Still a really amazing flick that totally works incredibly well and it’s exactly like a fun amusement park version of this or something. like if Doctor Strange Was Raiders of the Lost Arkit was definitely temple of misfortune…again, I liked it, I don’t want to give the impression to anyone that I (didn’t). I really really loved it but it wasn’t the movie I thought it was going to be and it didn’t ruin it for me but I want to see it again… I wanna go see it again… I really enjoyed it.”

you can see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Now in cinemas.
