Mystery Science Theater 3000’s Jonah Ray and Felicia Day on How the Gizmoplex Helped Out with the Show

Mystery Science Theater 3000's Joel Hodgson and Emily Marsh Become the First Women to Host the How Marsh Show

the upcoming thirteenth season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 will move the cult-favorite TV series to The Gizmoplex, a proprietary app and website where fans can buy, keep up mst3k Get exclusive access to live, and new episodes, interactive events, a deep back catalog of content, and more. The series, which was born out of public access television before moving to Comedy Central and the Sci-Fi Channel, first received a feature film from Universal before ending. A revival in recent years took the show to Netflix, and featured some big-name series regulars, including Felicia Day (divine) and Jonah Ray (galaxy mind podcast).

So – what’s the difference? Why go to Gizmoplex? The Simple Answer Is, The Team Behind Netflix After Cancellation mst3k Was able to crowdfund new episodes, and had to find a new home. Creatively, though, they gained something by missing out on the budget and overhead offered by Netflix.

“I mean, the writing was the same,” Ray told ComicBook.com. “The creativity of all this and putting it together. But shooting it was on a smaller scale, and a little more fun. When we were doing the Netflix ones, we were on these unnecessarily big sound stages in Hollywood and the Valley. And it was a lot of people, too much going on, too fast. And then these, we had time when we were shooting sketches to at least go, ‘Wait. What’s a fun angle? What can you do?’ That’s what I feel about this season. We just had a little more time to play.”

“I was so excited to be directed by Jonah this season, who is a fantastic director,” Day told ComicBook.com. “And it’s great to work with them because we had to follow the comedic impulse, where previously we had to have a lot of people sign off on changes, and everything was a little more drastic because it was a big institution. But it’s just that. Seriously… everyone’s getting together to make the funniest scene, maybe on a budget, a little bit. But at the same time, those constraints didn’t impede anything. I think it really enhanced everything.”

The Gizmoplex will be the only place to watch new episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000And the premiere will begin with a weekend of screenings: Santo in Dracula’s Treasure (May 6th), robot war (May 7), and beyond atlantis (May 8). After that, Gizmoplex will release a brand new mst3k Content every two weeks, including new episodes and shorts, as well as livestream premieres and special events.
