Kevin Smith is a busy man. Not only has he directed a number of films over the past few decades, but he has also owned several podcasts, owns a comic book shop, created a successful pop-up restaurant, and more. This week, the director revealed that he has been buying movie theaters since childhood. The actor took to Instagram to announce the purchase of the New Jersey theater and revealed that he is making a new film that will be shot on location.
“As a cinema-focused kid, I dreamed of being in a movie theater one day! But the older I got, the more I realized that childhood dreams don’t come true—so I had to settle for a living. Gotta do up @theatlanticmoviehouse, the movie theater that @jenschwalbach and I are buying with @leeloomultiprops, @odblues7, and @jeffswanton5’s ashley! Smith continued, “Does this mean that my films have gone so bad that I had to buy my own theater to show them? Maybe. But this theatrical development has already paid creative dividends: Remember that script I just finished? I started writing it’s because we’re about to own a movie theater – so I thought ‘why not shoot the movie in our new movie theater?’ Set in 1986, the flick is titled The 4:30 Movie and follows 3 suburban teens as they theater hop on a spring Sunday, sneaking from flick to flick, just like we used to do as kids. I’m looking forward to shoot it in 2023, after #theconveniencetour is over. And then next summer, we enter the world of higher education. I always thought of a movie theater during the day Will be best used as an educational outlet. There’s a screen in front and chairs for students – just like a classroom inside. Smith has been around for over 15 years Clerk II Hit the theatres, and the long-awaited threequel is finally on its way. Last weekend, the director shared the first five minutes of Clerk III At San Diego Comic-Con. The film will star the return of Brian O’Halloran (Dante Hicks), Jeff Anderson (Randall Graves), Rosario Dawson (Becky), Trevor Fehrman (Elias), Jason Mawes (Jay) and Smith (Silent Bob). The trailer includes some exciting cameo appearances, including a glimpse of longtime Smith collaborator, Ben Affleck.
