Back in 2007 was released as a seismic comedy. very bad, the coming-of-age film that turned Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse into household names and put writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on a path toward taking over Tinseltown. Despite grossing over $169 million at the global box office, the film’s success did not immediately translate into franchising, something that would be unheard of at any time in Hollywood history. Speaking in a new interview, filmmaker and Superbad producer Judd Apatow confirmed that there were talks of a sequel and that he tried to champion it, which was very upsetting to all of his collaborators.

“I always wanted them to do a sequel to Superbad,” Apatow said Inside You With Michael Rosenbaum podcast. “I know Jonah said ‘Oh, it’ll be fun to do this when we’re 70 or 80,’ but I really wanted them to do a superbad in college where Jonah would drop out of college and just showed up and met Michael Cera in college. But everyone was like ‘No we don’t want to spoil Superbad by accidentally making a crappy second one’ and I’d always say the same thing, ‘Okay, that’s like saying that second episode. Don’t make up The Sopranos. Like, why do you think we’ll spoil the other one?'”

For those unaware of Hill’s idea to do Superbad 2 when he was an octogenarian, the actor previously revealed W Magazine: “What I want to do is do ‘Superbad 2’ when we’re 80. Like, ‘Old people-house Superbad.’ Our spouses die, and we’re single again. All I want is ‘Superbad 2’, and that’s the only way I’ll ever be able to make it.”

When asked about the possibility, Hill co-star Michael told Sir Earlier this year: “I mean, I’m ready to do anything with that group of people. I think everyone’s very fanatical against it, just because we feel good about the movie. . It can only spoil what is good memory. That said, I would prefer to do something with the same group of people, even if it is not superbad.”
