John Logan Says The Friday the 13th Reference Came Before Kevin Bacon Casting

upcoming peacock original slasher movie they them (pronounced with punctuation, hence, give-slash-em) arrives this Friday and will try to make a splash in the horror sub-genre. Although slasher movies appeared almost every week in the 1980s, they were all but extinct by the time of the recent revival. Halloween, the ScreamAnd this Chucky The TV series has caused a resurgence. One exciting thing the movie could do as it claims to fame is to bring back Kevin Bacon. As fans will remember, Bacon made his big screen debut by starring in the original Friday the 13 feature film. Incidentally, there are some references to the Sean Cunningham slasher, but which came first?

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, we asked the writer/director if Friday the 13 The Easter Egg was always there or if it was added after Bacon was signed to appear in the film. “He was always in the script,” revealed the Penny Dreadful producer. “I tried to tip my hat wherever I could, but obviously the inclusion of Kevin Bacon is like a dream come true because we’re literally getting back to the origins of form, and that in this world. It’s thrilling to be back.”

Kevin Bacon plays Owen Whistler in this spooky horror film set in an LGBTQIA+ conversion camp. Several queer and trans campers join Whistler for a week of programming aimed at “helping them find a new sense of independence.” As camp methods become more psychologically unstable, campers must work together to protect themselves. When a mysterious killer starts claiming victims, things get even more dangerous.

Logan also produced a tease for the killer in the film, known as The Killer, which was in a way inspired by Friday the 13th.

He revealed, “First you look at every mask that’s been designed for every slasher movie since the beginning of slasher movies and think about finding the things you don’t like that you don’t like. don’t respond.” “You know, I’m very fond of Jason Voorhees hockey masks for all the obvious reasons because that’s the basic text of slasher movies for me. But for our slasher we wanted to do something else because we’re in the woods. We want to feel so wild. Were and our killer actually has two sides to his personality. So the mask shows a side that’s cool and a side that’s very angry and aggressive and I’ve actually teamed up with Tony, Tony Gardner. Fantastic Mask The designers and Tony just came up with some great studies for it.”

The film also stars Anna Chlumsky (I.).Finding Anna, Veep), Theo Germain (politician, Adam), Carrie Preston (Paws, Dr. Death) Qi Tan (How to Avoid Murder, Dear White People), Austin Kraut (BookSmart, Daybreak)Monique Kim (High Expectation, Looks That Kill), Anna Lore (All American, Doom Patrol), Cooper Koch (Less Than Zero, A New York Christmas Wedding), and Darwin del Fabro (Dangerous Contact, Novo Mundo).

they them Debuts on Peacock on 5th August.
