Does John Krasinski’s MCU Debut in Doctor Strange 2 Signal More Fantastic Four Fan-Casting Wishes Come True?

Does John Krasinski's MCU Debut in Doctor Strange 2 Signal More Fantastic Four Fan-Casting Wishes Come True?

By now the whole world knows that John Krasinski appears in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness As Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four. Getting Krasinski into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a huge win for fans, as the A Quiet Place actor/writer/director has long been a fan-casting favorite for Reed Richards in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. In fact, in some ways, Krasinski’s version of Mr. Fantastic that we found in the film sounded almost literally the same as what fans had imagined and expressed through fan art online. That closeness of concept has us asking the question:

Does the casting of John Krasinski as Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe indicate this? Fantastic Four Fan casting coming true?

first things first (fail): Even though we saw Krasinski’s reed stripped down to terrifying spaghetti strands by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in the Battle of the Illuminati vs. Scarlet Witch, no Marvel fan really expects it to be Krasinski in the role. is the end. Quite the opposite, in fact. It looks like that’s just the beginning for Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic – and probably a lot more.

Marvel fans were in for a curious shock when it was announced that Spider-Man Home Trilogy director Jon Watts had opted out of directing Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot. One of the immediate points of speculation (before anyone had seen Doctor Strange 2) was that John Krasinski was being pushed to direct the Fantastic Four. After seeing the Multiverse of Madness, that theory is stronger than ever.

…so will John Krasinski’s wife and collaborator Emily Blunt join him on the Fantastic Four?

Krasinski’s fan-casting as Reed Richards always came with the addition that Blunt played Susan Storms Richards, aka Marvel’s Invisible Woman. Blunt has been an MCU fan-favourite casting going back to phase one, when fans cast her as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), before Scarlett Johansson eventually walked away from the role. Blunt’s star has only risen since that time—notably working with her husband on A Quiet Place and its sequel.

At this point, giving Marvel fans a taste of John Krasinski’s Reed Richards or Krasinski joining the Fantastic Four without Emily Blunt seems like a huge disappointment. After all, what foundation could you better start off with in the story of Marvel’s first family?

Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot is in development. No official director or stars have been announced yet.
