Doctor Strange 2 Writer Addresses Empty Illuminati Chair

The Illuminati were eventually introduced to live-action during the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness., Acting as Earth-838’s original superhero group. As can be seen in the film, a spare chair was available at the secret group’s headquarters, leaving fans speculating as to who it might be. Since Strange Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch) was once part of the Illuminati before being assassinated by Black Bolt (Anson Mount), some believe it was left open to him. Others suggest that it was abandoned for a character that has yet to be introduced.

multiverse Writer Michael Waldron has been busy with a post-release press tour, and was recently asked a question about whose chair is it. As you might expect, the author was not able to confirm or deny the correct character belonging to the seat.

When asked if he and Marvel Studios knew the answer, or if it had just been left open, Waldron replied that it was “a bit of both.”

Elsewhere, the writer once confirmed that he and Marvel had discussed introducing Namor in the film, noting that the character is a part of the Illuminati in the source material. Ultimately, the studio opted not to include the beloved Atlantis in the picture.
