Mama June is opening up about her relationship with her daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, and how she feels about Alana’s new boyfriend.
Speaking with ET’s Deidre Behr, the reality star reflected on rekindling her connection, which plays a part in the new season of her reality documentary, Mama June: Road to Redemption.
“Our relationship is going well. You’ll see it throughout the season,” she shared. “She’s turning 17 in August. So, that’s it. She’s graduating next year. A lot of people still see her as a little 6-year-old girl, but she is [grown up],
As it stands, Alana is not living with mama June, but with her 22-year-old sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon. However, the head of the family is trying to rebuild her relationship with her children as she recovers from substance abuse, and she attempts to get her life back on track.
“Alana knows the door is always open. She knows I’ve always been here,” Mama June shared. “Again, she’s a teenager and teens are going to be teenagers. That’s the best way I can tell.”
As far as Alana’s romantic relationship with boyfriend Drelin Carswell goes, Mama June reveals that she has met him, and she doesn’t disapprove of him – although she has an issue that she would like to see him improve.
Mama Jun said, “They’ve been together for over a year. He’s good. He needs to get a little more job.” “I mean, he’s not bad. He doesn’t do anything bad to her or anything like that.”
While the relationship has heated up somewhat on social media due to their four-year age difference – Alana is 16 while Drelin is 20 – this doesn’t seem to be an issue for Mama June.
“they are [young] And they have been together for more than a year. So, if they’re the last? Fine. If they don’t, it could be their first love,” Mama June shared.
Fans can watch how Mama June and Alana work towards rebuilding their bond when Mama June: Road to Redemption Returns to WE TV on Friday, May 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
