LeVar Burton is preparing to take office as the next guest host of Hehopardy!, in a move he says spans his decades-long career. In a new interview about the Tamron Hall Show, Burton tells the talk show host that the job as a presenter feels like a “natural progression” for him.
“I think having the hosting job Danger! It feels like a natural progression to me, “he explains to Tamron Hall.” It encompasses almost everything that I have been doing for the last 45 years of my career. It just seems like a good fit to me. “
This is why the Emmy-nominated actor has been so public in his attempt to host the beloved trivia show.
“That’s why I was so public about it,” he shares. “It could have backfired, but I felt that if I didn’t do everything I could to defend the job, I would never forgive myself. So I took a risk and was very, very public about wanting the job.”
And the internet also advocated for Burton, with more than 250,000 fans signing a Change.org petition asking for the Reading rainbow host to intervene after the heartbreaking death of Danger! host Alex Trebek.
“Between hosting 21 seasons of the educational program Reading Rainbow, playing brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generationand playing the role of Kunta Kinte in the ever-important miniseries Estate, LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds, “says the Change.org petition.” This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producers Mike Richards and Harry Friedman how much they love audiences for Burton, and how much we’d love to see him as the next host of Danger!”
Burton reacted to the request on Twitter, writing, “Even if nothing comes out of it, I can’t say how much I appreciate all the love and support from all of you! 🙏🏾 ♥ ️.”
Burton is one of six hosts in Danger!final round of invited hosts to close out season 37 of the game show.
The show’s Instagram account announced its final lineup in April, which along with Burton, included television personalities Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, David Faber and Joe Buck.
Burton returned to Twitter once the news was confirmed, where he shared his excitement about landing the concert and thanked fans for making it happen.
“THANK YOU … to all of you for your passionate support! I am delighted, excited and eager to host Jeopardy! And I will do my best to live up to your faith in me. A DIFFERENCE! Go ahead and trust at my word, this time, “he wrote alongside the ad.
All stars will be hosts in an effort to raise money for charities of their choice. When the stars run an episode, the accumulated earnings of all contestants competing that week will be donated to charities selected by the invited hosts.
