Learning from Joy King on ‘Intense’ Combat Scenes in ‘The Princess’ and Brad Pitt in ‘Bullet Train’ (Exclusive)

Joy King put her body through a rough experience during the filming of Hulu princess, His hips, legs, and arms were bumped, but when it was all said and done, he had no other way. Why? It was “kind of addicting to how much fun he had”.

The 22-year-old actress opened up about her experience on the red carpet of the premiere of her action-packed film, telling ET’s Cassie DiLaura why she pushed her body so hard during “intense” training. King said that, after going into filming, he had a cast on his right hand following wrist surgery, but that didn’t stop him from going all the way during training sessions. In fact, he insisted on improving combat training, as he had a bigger goal in mind.

“I’ve never done anything like this before, so I was very nervous,” King told ET. “Jumping into this headfirst was very scary that I’d never done before. But I knew for a fact that I wanted to get to a point in my training process where I was able to fight most of my own stunts on my own. And everybody on the stunt team, every single person who coached me – my stunt doubles who helped me train every day – they supported me a lot and they raised me so high where 85 to 90 percent of what you see on screen Well, that’s really me. I couldn’t have done this without everyone who raised me.”

In princess (Streaming July 1 on Hulu), King is a strong-willed young royal who refuses to marry the ruthless sociopath with whom she is engaged, and is kidnapped and buried in a mansion of her father’s palace. It’s clear how proud King is to have mastered the intense training for the film. She posted a glimpse of her training session on Instagram, in which she looked quite a stunt pro during rehearsals. Yes, there were long, painful days but she says it was all worth it.

“I also have bad hips in general so I would sit on my feet in the Thera-gun crying at night,” she quipped. “I had a cast in the beginning. I had wrist surgery. I wound up fighting a sword with my right hand. There was a lot of blood, sweat, tears. But honestly, the pain and the stuff my body went through. It’s all about this.” Kind of intoxicating how much fun I had. I wouldn’t change anything.”

King is a busy actress these days. He is also a part of a star-studded cast bullet train Including Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock. And, speaking of being a busy bee, Kings is also set to star alongside Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman in a new comedy for Netflix next year. With this in mind it is worth asking: Does the king have any time to plan the wedding?!

“Correct?!” He replied. “I don’t know. I’m honestly planning a wedding, but at the same time, I’m enjoying the engagement as we always say – me and Steven [Piet] – We’re always like you know you’ve only been engaged once for a very short period of time in your life, and once you’re married you’re married forever. We are very excited to get engaged.”
