Lady Gaga calls Tony Bennett’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease “heartbreaking”

Lady Gaga became emotional as she spoke about Tony Bennett’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease a day after the couple were nominated for 6 Grammys.

Lady Gaga revealed what it was like for her to watch one of her “most favorite people” Tony Bennett fight Alzheimer’s disease. Calling it “heartbreaking,” the pop superstar, 35, said she saw the 95-year-old legend battling the disease as they recorded their Grammy-nominated album together, according to her Nov. 24 interview with Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.

“Tony is one of my favorite people on the whole planet and I love him with all my heart. I love his family with all my heart, I love his wife, Susan, with all my heart. In February, Tony revealed he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016. In an article for AARP Detailing the fight, he also announced he was recording his second album with Gaga. The record, Love for sale, a tribute to Cole Porter, was released on October 1. The collaboration on Tuesday saw the duo secure six Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, Recording of the Year, Best Pop Duo / Group Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Best music video and best engineering album, non-classic.
