Kristin Cavallari is opening up about her divorce from Jay Cutler. Laguna Beach The alum was a guest on the latest episode call her dad podcast where she and host Alex Cooper discuss their highly publicized separation from the former NFL star and her hopes for the future.

Of Cutler, she said, “I hope he finds someone, I really do.” “I want to make him happy. My kids benefit from it, you know. So I hope he gets married again.”

Still, the 35-year-old reality star says seeing her on a date for the first time since parting was “a little staggered”. “That’s someone, you know,” she says. “I’m friends with almost all of my ex and I think that’s a good thing. I really value the time I spend with everyone, I’ve learned from every relationship I’ve had and all I really want is my ex to be happy and be in a great relationship.”

Cavallari and Cutler married in 2013 after a whirlwind courtship, which was not without its share of drama. Before walking down the aisle, Cavallari had annulled the wedding at one point.

“I called off the engagement for the same reason I got divorced—same reason, I must say,” she admits. “I think if it has anything to do with it, it’s that you can’t ignore red flags, people don’t change, and you have to trust your gut.”

After meeting Cutler at age 23, Cavallari says she was looking forward to taking the “next natural step” in her life into marriage and having children. Together they share two sons – Camden and Jackson – and a daughter, Sailor. She says that her children are the reason why she will not publicly admit what went wrong in their marriage.

“Since I have three kids with him, I’m very careful about what I say,” she admits. “If you and I didn’t have microphones in front, I’d tell you a**king, but it’s his dad and my oldest googles us now and I just want to be very careful. My mom never said anything bad Said. About my dad growing up and I really respected him, and I want to be that kind of mom.”

“It was toxic,” she concluded their relationship. “Duration, end of story. That’s all I have to say.”

Opening up about her decision to end the marriage, Cavallari says she considered it for years before making it official.

“Nothing big happened in the end,” she says. “I remember always asking my mom, ‘But how do I know?’ And she’ll be like, ‘You’ll just find out.’ And I did, I just knew a little bit. It’s the scariest thing, it’s also the saddest thing. I mean, it’s a lot of emotions but it could also be the best thing.”

“I think with any relationship, you just have to realize what the deal breakers are for you. What’s important to you and what’s not?” she adds. “I was really sad, I mean, and that was the bottom line. I was in an unhealthy relationship and so, to me, doesn’t deserve it. Plus, I didn’t want my kids to think it was normal.” was and I wanted to see me happy and finally see me, not now but finally see me with someone who really respects me and treats me the way I want to be treated is required.”
