John Legend Says He and Chrissy Teigen Son Jack Amid Pregnancy News ‘Will Always Feel That Loss’

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have found joy in a new pregnancy, but they will never forget their devastating loss. The couple announced last week that they are expecting a rainbow baby, two years after their son Jack was born dead at 20 weeks’ gestation.

The legend reflects on that heartbreaking time and wife Teigen’s decision to be open about the experience, sharing a series of raw, teary-eyed photos from their hospital room.

“It was difficult and I was hesitant to share it, but I think Chrissy was really right in encouraging us to share it,” Legend said in an interview. BBC Sounds’ desert island disc, “I think it was really powerful for a lot of people and way more people go through it than anyone realizes and I feel lonely a lot of times.”

Legend called it a “really powerful, wise decision by Chrissy to share this because it helped so many people.”

Since then, Legend said his family has become a sounding board for others mourning a similar loss, including their personal friends.

“It’s hard to try to comfort anyone who’s going through this, because there’s no real comfort and you’re always going to feel that loss,” he said. “It expands over time so it doesn’t feel as heavy over time, but you’ll never forget it.”

With a new baby and album on the way, Legend said he has worked through his personal grief with music.

“Some songs are about dealing with loss, you know, and grief and when you feel broken,” he said. “And I was able to incorporate those experiences into the music.”

Teigen and Legend are already parents to 6-year-old daughter Luna and 4-year-old son Miles.

Ambition The author has been open about the experience of a couple going through another IVF cycle after the loss of a pregnancy. Last week, she showed off her baby bump with a cute photo while announcing the news of her new pregnancy on Instagram.

“The past few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our homes and hearts again. 1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as you can see!) We have one more on the way,” she captioned the sweet post.

“Every appointment I’ve said to myself, ‘Okay if it’s healthy today I’ll announce it,’ but then I take a sigh of relief to hear the heartbeat and decide I’m still too nervous,” He continued. “I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves, but so far, everything is perfect and beautiful and I feel hopeful and wonderful.”
