Jennifer Hudson has a lot to thank you for in the New Year! the Respect The actress spoke to ET’s Kevin Frazier about receiving the Chairman’s Award at this year’s Palm Springs International Film Awards, her plans to return to Broadway in hopes of getting her final prize for the elusive EGOT, and a possible opportunity to host their own talk show.
“I don’t even know where to start to say how great it is to feel recognized and to be part of such a prestigious cause,” said Hudson, thanking her.Respect Familie “and PSIFA festival chairman Harold Matzner for the award. “It feels like I received an award that was just selected to play it and live my dream of doing it. So getting an award for it is like the icing on the cake,” she shared. “It’s something I don’t take lightly. I feel like we all lay our hearts [and] put every bit of our energy into this project to pay homage to their legacy and so this is just a memory to look at and cherish with that in mind. “
Hudon’s critically acclaimed portrayal of Franklin garnered multiple nominations including Female Movie Star of 2021 at the People’s Choice Awards, Best Actress at the 23rd Women’s Image Awards, Outstanding Actress at the 22nd Black Reel Awards, and Best Original Song at the 79th Awards. “[Being chosen for the role is] scary sometimes, you know. It’s a huge task – you can’t get up every day and say, ‘I’m playing Aretha Franklin,’ ”she explained. But Hudson doesn’t pretend to do it all, happily quoting the list of names of people who have stood by her over the years, including her managers and colleagues involved with her production company Jhud Productions, Inc. saying I couldn’t live this life without all of these people, so I have to send a special greeting to everyone, “she said.
With such a gold team by her side, it’s no surprise that Hudson has an opportunity in mind to do something she hasn’t pursued before: hosting. Back in November, ET learned that the american idol Alaun presented a daytime talk show where Warner Bros. TV, in partnership with Telepictures, tested Hudson as the talk show host for a possible daytime debut in 2022.
Although the singer was shy when she gave a final answer, she admitted that “there is always a plan” behind the scenes.
“I would love to do that, it would be a whole new, interesting world to immerse yourself in,” said the singer. “I love to talk, as you can probably tell by now, and I love meeting Jennifer-ize people. So maybe I can make it into your living room, 2022 will definitely let us know!”
“Here at Jhud Productions we always have a plan. And we never stop working and as I always say you will always see me try and grow so there is always a plan so much I can tell you, ”she added.
