James Cameron Might Not Direct All The Avatar Movies

james cameron may have created the planet Pandora, but there is a possibility that the filmmaker will no longer direct the movies of Avatar.

After the groundbreaking first film in the franchise, Cameron decided to continue the saga with four more stories, the first of which, Avatar: The Shape of Water, arrives in Argentine cinemas on December 15, 2022. The third installment was not announced, but according to reports The Hollywood Reporter is scheduled to be released in December 2024since it was filmed consecutively with Avatar 2.

“The movies of Avatar themselves consume too much…” Cameron said in an interview with the magazine Empire, and added that there are other projects that he is developing and that excite him.

“I think eventually, over time, I don’t know if that’s after three or four movies, I think I’ll want to hand over the baton to a director that I trust to take over and for me to be able to do other things that I’m also interested…”, continued the director before hesitating out loud and leaving everything to be seen. “Maybe yes or maybe no. I don’t know…”

Despite not being entirely sure if he will direct -or not- the rest of the franchise of AvatarCameron looks forward to seeing how the stories unfold.

During the last decade, Avatar It was the highest grossing film in history, until Avengers: Endgame it took over the position in 2019. The film was re-released in the United States on August 27, 2020 in 3D and IMAX 3D theaters, with some previously unreleased scenes.

Avatar 2, sequel coming more than ten years later from the premiere of the original, will mark the return to the big screen of box office winner Cameron. The trailer for what’s to come promises new adventures starring the Na’vi on Pandora.
