Jake Gyllenhaal will remake a Patrick Swayze classic

patrick swayze left a gale of fans around the world. the actor of Dirty Dancing (1987) died prematurely, at the age of 57, a victim of pancreatic cancer. And one of his films, The hard (either road House) is going to have its remake, and another star, Jake Gyllenhaalas the protagonist.

Indeed, the Oscar and Tony nominated actor is officially set – he’s already signed – to star in the Patrick Swayze version of the classic film for Amazon’s Prime Video.

Doug Liman (edge of tomorrowwith Tom Cruise, Chaos: The Beginning, with Tom Holland) will direct it, from a script written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. After producing the original film for MGM in 1989, Joel Silver (the saga of Deadly weapon, Hard to Kill Y Matrix) returns to produce the reimagining for his company Silver Pictures.

Reports that Gyllenhaal and Liman were circling the project had already been rumored for a little over half a year, as early as November 2021. Prime Video officially announced the imminent start of production.

In the 1989 cult classic, Swayze played James Dalton, a Zen doorman hired to clean up a noisy Missouri bar. Dalton quickly confronts the corrupt businessman (Ben Gazzara) who controls the town. The movie wasn’t exactly a big box-office hit when it was released: the $30 million doubled the investment, since the budget was $15 million. But it has since become something of a cult film, and ranks among Swayze’s most beloved roles among fans of the deceased actors.

“Hardcore has a special place in my heart and I am so excited to bring this new, imagined version to audiences around the world,” said Silver. “Doug and I have made big, loud action movies and we’re ready to bring everything we’ve got to this one.”

According to the studio, Gyllenhaal will now be a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-ready bar in the Florida Keys, but “he soon discovers that all is not what it seems in this tropical paradise.”

The Amazon film will begin production in the Dominican Republic this August. And its cast will include Billy Magnussen (no time to die), Daniela Melchior (the suicide squad), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, BK Cannon, and Arturo Castro. When I premiered The hard It will stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
