when game of Thrones By-product, dragon houseThe House focuses on Targaryen and the political intrigue surrounding the sitting of the Iron Throne, another burning element to the prequel series that can’t be overlooked: the dragons.

Based on George RR Martin fire and bloodThe series, which is set 200 years before the events of the original series, follows the battles and drama surrounding the Battle of Succession. It is also set at a time when dragons – and there are 17 in total – were massive and formidable possessions, but all but guaranteed the Targaryens’ continued rule over King’s Landing in Westeros.

Co-creator and executive producer Ryan Kondal told ET, “They are an integral part of the show. They’re inextricably linked to this story, especially where it leads.” While it’s unlikely the series will see all 17 on screen (“I can’t promise that”), Condall states, “that you Will see most of them.”

“The trick with this is to use dragons as a storytelling tool. It’s not just raw spectacle and dragons for the sake of dragons. They’re a part of the story, they’re Targaryen’s source of power and supremacy, they’re deterrents and fears.” are a tool, and eventually, they become a tool of war,” the listener continues. “And how those tools of war are employed is a big part of how the story is told and where the story goes.”

He adds, “As far as it goes, dragons play a different role in the show. You’ll see them being used to advance the story, not just because we can. ,

With that said, here’s a look at the dragons to expect. dragon house and the breakdown of their relationship with their respective Dragonriders, as detailed by stars Matt Smith (Damon Targaryen), Millie Alcock (Rainera Targaryen) and others.

King Viserys Targaryen
Dragon:
balerian

dead from the beginning dragon houseThe Belarian (aka Black Dread) was ruled by several Targaryen family members, before Viserys (Paddy Considine) became the last to take the reins.

While Viserys is revered by creatures, “he has a completely different relationship with them”. [compared] As for the other Targaryens,” says Considine. “Visaries are personally afraid of the power of dragons … they have the ability to destroy the world. These things, they are like nuclear weapons.”

“So, Viserys is very responsible about them. Plus, he understands that without them the Targaryens would not be the power they are at this point in history, ”the actor continues. “So, he is not a fool and he understands it. He just doesn’t use it. He is not a tyrant… he fears their potential and in the wrong hands, it can cause massive destruction.”

for the Balerian skull, which was first seen game of Thrones Before reappearing in the prequel, co-creator and executive producer Miguel Sapochnik explains the great detail that went into making it more realistic on screen.

“The thing I hated more than anything else was the Balerian skull in the original show. I’d walk past it and think, ‘This isn’t the king’s skull.’ This will happen [make] me so crazy And so in the end, when it came that we should have a Balerian skull, I was like, ‘I can do this,'” he says, revealing that he had seen the skull visible on House of the Dragon. Finished designing the updated version of .

And then after becoming a new one, Kondal inadvertently upset Sapochnik. “They built the skull and then they put it on and I walk in front of it and I was like, ‘That’s great. It looks exactly like the original.’ And he’s like, ‘No, it’s nothing like the original,'” Kondall recalls, before looking at the photos comparing the two. “And I finally understood what was bothering Miguel. We have a very good scalp.”

“And black, because dragon bone is really black,” Sapochnik says.

Prince Damon Targaryen
Dragon: caraxes

A notorious warrior who has been in charge of the King’s Watch, Damon (Smith) is ruthless and has a chaotic nature. And, unlike some members of his family, he isn’t afraid to unleash his dragon’s wrath when needed.

“Well, Dragon is a loner loner in his own right—like Damon in many ways. He’s obtuse, he’s tough, but if you’re in, you’re in, and if you’re out, you’re out.” Smith says. “And I think what’s beautiful about their relationship is a real deep affection between the two of them, Dragon and Dragonrider.”

He says that Carax is the same as Damon. “When he’s too close to you, he’ll do anything for you. He has a very, very deep sense of loyalty, especially to his dragon.”

Princess Renera Targaryen
Dragon: syrax

As a passionate dragonrider, it should come as no surprise that a young Rainera (Millie Alcock, while Emma D’Arcy portrays an older version) is more interested in taking wind with the Syracuses than she is with her father. Serves liquor, considers state issues. , King Viserys, and his inner circle.

“What’s cool is that Syrax and Rainera share a temperament. They’re both volatile and unpredictable and stubborn,” D’Arcy says. “I think for Rainera, who I think from a very young age, has really struggled with her family legacy and where she fits into that story, the dragons are really tied to the Targaryen identity.”

She adds, “Obviously, on the one hand they are a kind of nuclear weapon that has allowed this family to hold power for so long. At the same time, it in itself becomes a symbol of what is meant to be this cloth.”

Meanwhile, Alcock reveals that Sapochnik had told him “he began to base the persona of the beast dragons and Syrax on an eagle, which [she] The idea was really interesting. ,

Princess Raines Targaryen

Dragon: Melees

While Rainis (Eve Best) is known as the “Queen Who Never Was,” that doesn’t take away from the fact that she’s also a Dragonrider herself. Her dragon, Melis, is also known as the Red Queen because of her red complexion.

While the actress didn’t see any footage of herself as Rainis riding Mélis, she did describe the surreal experience of filming scenes with the CGI creature. “Well, it was weirdly alive,” says Best. “You know, it had a weird life of its own because it was a big one—I don’t know how to say it—but it was a big machine and it made these wonderful noises.”

She adds, “I was in love with it till the end.”
