DaBaby released a new track recently, and one line drew a lot of negative reactions from fans. At freestyle remix “Beatbox”, which he dropped on Friday, appears to be taking a heavy hit on 17-year-old YouTube star JoJo Siwa.
The line in question comes when DaBaby raps, “Bitch, JoJo Siwa, bitch,” while holding a picture of Siwa on her phone.
The disagreement left many fans legitimately confused as to why he would poke fun at a teenage internet star, and angry for doing so.
Despite the backlash, DaBaby appeared to find the outrage hilarious and took to Twitter to explain that the line was not intended to be a dislike, but merely a play on words. DaBaby’s real name is Jonathan (hence “JoJo”) and he used Siwa as a spin on “See why”.
“😂😂😂😂 I love Twitter bro,” DaBaby tweeted as the uproar was in full swing. Then added, “I ‘Siwa’ ain’t like the rest of you niggas .😂😂😂”
He also directly tweeted Siwa and explained that he had no intention of disrespecting her and that his daughter is a huge fan.
“@itsjojosiwa, my 3 year old princess is your number one fan. I bought her all the products you have. She thinks it’s you,” he wrote. “Don’t let them fool you into thinking I’ll ever have a problem with you. My pun just went over their heads. All the love from me, little one, keep on shining!”
However, that didn’t stop many fans from expressing their outrage at what they felt was an attack on the young artist.
Twitter users expressed their surprise, confusion, and disappointment with some very creative posts.
Many questioned what the alleged dispute might have resulted from, while others simply sat back and enjoyed watching Siwa’s vocal fans come out to their defense.
Siwa has yet to respond or comment on the line in question.
