The Masked Singer returned Wednesday with a huge two-hour extravaganza, in which the remaining contestants faced off in a Super 8 showdown. After all the songs were sung and guesses made, fans had to say goodbye to not one, but one. two celebrities in disguise.
The Piglet, Robopine, The Seashell, The Yeti, The Russian Doll (s), The Crab, The Chameleon and The Black Swan provided some of their best performances to date as the show’s panel of famous “detectives”: Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy, and guest panelist Rita Wilson all went to great lengths to find out who is underneath each elaborate costume.
However, with all the talent in the race, no matter who went home, it was going to be painful. And the first star to get the ax was The Crab.
After the panelists made their final guesses about The Crab, who joined the competition as a wild card contestant, he finally unmasked himself and revealed that he was none other than singer Bobby Brown.
Brown spoke to ET Wednesday about his time on the show and said how exciting it was to be a contestant after being a Masked singer fan since the first season.
“It was fun being a part of the show, it was fun filming it, and I loved the camaraderie,” shared Brown. “Just being able to make my children smile served its purpose in the three times I acted.”
“My kids and I have been watching the show since day one,” he shared. “Every Wednesday, it’s television time after dinner at the Brown house … [so] When I got the call … I was skeptical, but at the same time I was also flattered that they chose to call me, because I’m a huge fan. “
Brown delivered a fantastic and energetic number during Wednesday’s show, singing a wild rendition of Phil Collins’s “In the Air Tonight,” making his elimination even more surprising.
After Crab unmasked himself, it was time for the second elimination of the night, and the next star to end up getting the chop was The Seashell! Despite a spectacular performance of Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” that several panelists said was The Seashell’s best number to date, she ended up getting kicked.
After the panel once again made its final guesses, The Seashell removed her beautifully ornamented mask and revealed herself to be actress and television personality Tamera Mowry, who definitely proved that she is also a very talented singer.
Mowry also spoke to ET on Wednesday and explained how singing for the people again, for the first time in a long time, has rekindled his passion for music and live performances.
“I have to relive a dream of mine and I don’t want to stop!” said Mowry, who explained that when she was first cast in her iconic ’90s sitcom Sister sister, she was considering her future career path and choosing to act on singing, and has long wondered about the other path she might have taken.
“Now I’m addicted to the microphone,” she added, laughing.
He also reflected on his song choice and its connection to the Tiffany hit that he killed on Wednesday’s episode.
“I wanted to pay tribute to my childhood, when I actually had that entertaining bug,” Mowry shared. “My sister [Tia Mowry] and me, we used to sing that song together, and we danced a bit with our babysitter … and we put together a routine for that song. So I had fun. It was amazing “.
Now the Super 8 has been downgraded to “Spicy 6,” as host Nick Cannon called them, and the competition heats up even more as additional tracks are revealed and entirely new songs are performed in the coming weeks.
