The ‘Friends’ reunion will finally start filming next week

The Friends The reunion is finally happening! A source tells ET that the long-awaited HBO Max reunion of David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow will be filmed the week of April 5.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the news. ET has reached out to HBO Max for comment.

Schwimmer also teased the news on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show. He revealed that after finishing filming the talk show, “I was going to Los Angeles to film the Friends reunion, “which will mark the first time he’s seen his former co-stars” in years. “

Although Schwimmer noted that “nothing is written and we are not in character” during the special, he joked that “there is a section that I do not want to reveal, but we all read something.”

The timeline makes sense, as Schwimmer shared that he was leaving for Los Angeles in “just over a month” in March.

“We finally figured out a way to film it safely and there will be a part that we will film outside due to security protocols,” he said during an appearance on SiriusXM Radio Andy.

Two months before Schwimmer’s comments, Kudrow said the reunion planned to film “early spring.” In the same interview, which aired in the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, Kudrow revealed that he had already recorded something for the special.

“It has different facets, and we already filmed packages of things. I already did a pre-filming, so we are definitely doing it, because I already filmed something,” he said. “… I think it will be great.”

Initially, the special was supposed to premiere with the release of HBO Max on May 27, 2020, but had to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the reunion was postponed, Friends Co-creator Marta Kauffman told ET that she wanted to wait to record the special until a live studio audience could be part of the experience.

“We all want it to happen. We just have to wait until it’s safe. This is a show that doesn’t have a script, but that’s how the show works, we’re going to need a live audience. Even if we socially distance that live audience. , it really is a big part of what Friends It’s … We can’t do it without them, “he said in August.” Everyone agrees and we are waiting for that moment when you feel connected to bring a live audience. “
