Selena Gomez has made her debut in Premio Lo Nuestro, but it was not what fans expected. Gomez and Rauw Alejandro promised viewers a performance at the awards show on Thursday, but the segment was prerecorded.
Gomez wore a shiny, silky dress for the recorded version of “Baila Conmigo.” and was seen against a fiery red and orange background by herself. Then Alejandro was seen in his own space with a blue background. The images were similar to those featured in the couple’s music video, causing fans to wonder if the couple even recorded something new for the performance.
Fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment. “I really thought Selena would be at the awards show,” wrote one user. “@Univision you all played me. You should have said it was a video premiere.”

The pre-recorded performance comes just weeks before the release of Gomez’s first Spanish EP. Revelation, which will be released on March 12. Earlier this month, he made his return to Latin music with the personal and empowering track “De Una Vez.” She followed up with the release of “Baila Conmigo” shortly after. Both “De Una Vez” and “Baila Conmigo” were produced by Tainy, Albert Hype, Jota Rosa and NEON16.
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Gomez said that creating an album in Spanish has been something he “has wanted to do for 10 years.”
“Because I’m so, so proud of my heritage and I really felt like I wanted this to happen,” she shared. “And it happened, and I feel like it’s the perfect time. Just with all the division in the world, there’s something about Latin music that globally makes people feel things, you know?”
