RHOA’s Drew Sidora talks about the fight with Kenya Moore and how to air her marital problems on TV (Exclusive)

Despite what some of her the Real Housewives of Atlanta Co-stars might have to say (see: this interview with Kenya Moore), season 13’s new peach headline Drew Sidora says he’s not thirsty in the least. In fact, she says it is beyond hydrous.

“I take care of myself,” Drew tells ET via video chat from her home in Georgia, responding to Kenya describing her as thirsty. “I’m a big girl, and it’s an opportunity and I take it for what it is. Sometimes negativity comes in different forms and right now it’s just coming from a fluffy face.”

Drew and Kenya didn’t get off on the right foot (no pun intended, as Drew was recovering from Achilles tendon surgery when RHOA went into production), as seen in last Sunday’s episode where the couple met on camera. Kenya laughed when LaToya Ali’s new “friend” from the show joked about Drew’s cat-like wig (Kenya also told LaToya to stop commenting) and joked about Cynthia Bailey introducing Drew to the group. and found friends “in the pound.”

“I really felt something with Kenya,” Drew recalls of the moment. “Like, I didn’t know because it wasn’t on my face, but I felt the energy, I couldn’t understand it! So after seeing [the episode, it] explains a lot, you know what I mean? Why the relationship ended, or ends, where it is. Even with LaToya, they never told me. So, I was like, wow. That’s really shocking, a pet in my head? Is that what we are talking about?

“She was a cute kitten and it felt good when I walked out the door,” Drew adds about her wig, which she combed herself because she wasn’t professionally styling her hair or makeup due to the coronavirus pandemic. “I think all the girls can relate to fighting COVID and us trying to keep our looks.”

It seems safe to say that Drew and Kenya’s relationship will continue on shaky ground as season 13 unfolds. While he doesn’t know for sure, Drew speculates that jealousy could play a role in Kenya’s inability to befriend him. Increase star.

“She just didn’t take me in the way I would have hoped,” Drew reflects. “We are both actresses and we come in this industry, so I was surprised, but she definitely did not welcome me in the way that I thought.”

“You know, you can’t get along with everyone and I’m learning it,” he adds. “As much as it would have been amazing, because I really looked up to her as a kid, it was uncomfortable for me.”

Drew confesses that starting reality TV was also uncomfortable. While she played herself on television before, she never state herself on camera.

“I’m used to the script,” she says. “I know what I said and [now I’m] like, OK, this scene here, I mean, what did everyone capture? It’s like long scenes sometimes … [and] that’s a bit worrying. But I feel really good because I’m being super open, super real and it’s a journey, and everyone is going to witness it. So as scary as it is, I’m really here for it. “

Drew claims Bravo pursued her for years to be on the show, starting in 2015 when she was due to give birth to their son Machai, who is now 5 years old. She was flying to Atlanta when she went into early labor, ending the talks. Then last year, her co-star from the 2015 movie Sister code, then housewife Eva Marcille, took her to meet the cast when they filmed at Cynthia Bailey’s winery opening / surprise engagement party.

“Then they came back for season 13,” he says. “I was like, okay. Like, God, what are you trying to tell me? Obviously, this is and is meant to be, and I felt like with everything that’s been through, 2020 has been a rough year, I’m sure for everyone. , so I was like, I have a lot to share and I would never get a chance to share it just by making a movie or television. [me] dealing with so much of my life, so I felt like the time was right. “

Drew began exposing things for the world to see in her debut episode, as she and her husband of six years, Ralph Pittman, had a tense argument during their engagement dinner, and Drew pressed Ralph for details on why. what disappeared for three days. right before she started filming Housewives.

“It literally fell apart with the cameras and I definitely didn’t plan, nor did I want to,” he admits. “I wish I could take it back. At the time, I was super embarrassed, that’s why you saw me walk away, because I thought, this is too much. I’m done.”

“We are dealing with our marriage now,” he adds. “We are in counseling and I am very grateful for that.”

While Ralph went to MIA it may have been a surprise to the audience, Drew says it wasn’t entirely unexpected. She calls her husband “a runner” and clarifies that he has done this before, but never for more than a day, which is why he became “red flag territory” on television.

“My eyes are open, you know?” she comments. “I’m a woman and of course my mind is going to go to all those different places our mind goes, so we are in counseling and we are doing the job effectively and I think healthy now.”

“Ultimately, we love each other,” declares Drew. “We are committed to our marriage and, as you will see this season, things come up that help us better understand [each other]. “

Drew says she continues to get answers “on a daily basis” to questions she has about her marriage, like when she accused Ralph of spying on her with a nanny cam while she was “missing.” Everything will come to light as the season continues to air. Reality TV has a reputation for “ruining” marriages, but Drew says that doesn’t worry him. Instead, he sees airing out his supposed dirty laundry for millions of people as additional therapy for the couple.

“It’s kind of like, when you’ve tried all the different things, like, we tried counseling, you know? I think what I learned is that we don’t stick with it,” he says. “We try to argue, we try, ‘Well let’s break up …’ We try all those different things and when you get to this point you think, what else do we have to lose? This is something we haven’t tried, which is putting it out there to be able to see each other. ourselves in a real light, true and Besides be committed to counseling. “

Drew says she is very excited for viewers to see more of her home life, meeting her three children, Josiah, Machai and Aniya, and her mother, Pastor Jeanette. There is also a lot to come with the group. Fans will see Drew bond with his “ride or die”, Porsha Williams, whose work to amplify the Black Lives Matter movement he praises and of course there are “stripper-gate” accusations surrounding cast members who are They hang out with a male stripper at Cynthia’s Bachelorette Party.

“I was surprised to hear the sequels, because I always thought that what happened at a girls bachelorette party ended up at a girls bachelorette party,” says Drew. “I was disappointed and I don’t know what happened. I don’t know what they’re talking about. I was in my bed, asleep. So, I’ll be sitting there with my popcorn along with you just looking at that, because I have no idea.”

“I don’t think that’s true at all,” he says of the rumors that are circulating out there.

In addition to waiting for responses on stripper-gate, fans will be tuning in each week to see what prompts Drew to say to one of his co-stars, “Fuck me! I’m from Chicago, bitch. * H!” She more than hints that he throws the phrase Kenya’s way.

“At that time … I was shot in a way that just sent me there,” he jokes. “It’s like, where I come from, it’s a line that you don’t cross. I’m super laid back. I can’t get along with a lot of people. I just like to have fun, and there’s a line, but when you cross that line, and the people of Chicago know that we have limits, and I think with anyone you have to let people know how they’re supposed to treat you, and that’s the line of respect. And when it does cross, then all bets are off, and at that point it’s like that’s what happened. “

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8 pm ET / PT on Bravo.
