Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are lending their support to an organization in need! Following the devastation of winter storm Uri in Texas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex approached the Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas, Texas, through his non-profit foundation, Archewell.
“Today, news of our damages reached Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!” the Genesis women’s shelter shared on Twitter. “Through your non-profit organization, you are supporting us by replacing the roof of our transitional housing facility and helping us meet our immediate needs. THANK YOU, ARCHEWELL FOUNDATION!”
A spokesperson for the couple told ET Canada that Harry and Meghan spoke with the Genesis team on Sunday, sharing that “their hearts go out to the community, to the families Genesis serves, and to the volunteers and workers on the ground who selflessly provide care and support to those in need.” .
They added that “like so many, the couple is heartbroken to see that Texas communities are still struggling to access the basic resources we all need: water, heat, food, shelter” and hope that others will be forced to donate or help. ” any way they can. “
Genesis Shelter offers emergency shelter, long-term housing, counseling, and legal services to women and families who are victims of abuse and domestic violence.
This marks Harry and Meghan’s first public charitable act since last week’s announcement that the couple have officially resigned as active members of the royal family, following their one-year probationary period. Although Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, noted that they would renounce their royal patronages, several of the organizations the couple supported have come out saying they plan to keep the Duke and Duchess as patrons.
