‘NCIS’ fans react to heartbreaking revelation that Jimmy Palmer’s wife died of COVID-19

Tuesday’s episode of NCIS It rapidly advanced to the pandemic and revealed that a team member was hit especially hard by COVID-19. Jimmy Palmer suffered a devastating loss when his wife, Breena, died from the virus.

While catching up with the team in the bullpen, Jimmy shared that his mother would move in to help after Breena’s death.

“You guys were so cool, when, you know … I lost Breena,” he said. “But between work, single parenting, school, it just became too much. So, I called in a lifeguard.”

The moment came as a shock to fans and served as a stark reminder of the pandemic, which has claimed the lives of more than 460,000 people in the US.

Viewers were heartbroken for Jimmy, while others expressed frustration with the story, especially after the deaths of other characters in NCIS. See their reactions below.

As actor Brian Dietzen told ET, the NCIS The writers informed him of Jimmy’s loss long before he received the script for the episode. The decision was made after organic conversations about the creative fuel that Breena’s death would provide for her story to move forward, as well as for the rest of the team.

“We can see in this week’s episode that Jimmy is trying to maintain as much happiness as he can, trying to say, ‘Hey, my glass is half overflowing here. I’m doing great,’ while we as an audience can see that that may not be the case, “he said. “He’s doing everything he can to keep his head above the water. But that can happen for a while before there is a certain breaking point.”

Dietzen mentioned how harsh the pandemic has been especially for frontline workers.

“I think that was one of the interesting and obviously heartbreaking things about this disease that we’ve all seen, is that these people on the front lines were working as doctors working as EMTs who have had to go through heartbreak on their own. And yet they are asked to keep working because if they stop working, then we no longer have our first line for ourselves, “he said. “In many ways, this episode turned out to be an acknowledgment to the people who have lost others during this pandemic.”

NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8 pm ET / PT on CBS. For more information on the series, see below.
