Michael Douglas honors Father Kirk Douglas on the first anniversary of his death

Michael Douglas is honoring his late father Kirk Douglas. Friday marked the first anniversary of the Hollywood icon’s death, and his son took to Instagram to pay tribute. Kirk died on February 5 at the age of 103.

“I can’t believe it’s been a year since you left us,” wrote Michael, 76, alongside a photo of the two. “At 103, you picked a good time to check it out. I love you with all my heart! #KirkDouglas.”

His wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, also left a sweet comment, writing, “I love you Pappy🙏🏻😘.” Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin, along with other famous faces, also left comments on Michael’s post.

In December, to celebrate what would have been Kirk’s 104th birthday, Michael posted a montage clip of photos of the father-son duo of decades. It also included a voiceover from Michael revealing the best advice he received from his father.

“The best advice my father gave me was: ‘Whatever you do, do the best you can. You leave that job knowing you couldn’t have done more, and then you leave, you’ve fulfilled better. Don’t look back,'” he says .

“There was no one like him. There is another generation, that was the great generation, post WWII … and Dad was one of a kind,” Michael said of his father when he spoke with ET in May. “I think he’s very happy. I know he’s especially proud, not so much of what I worked with and what I’m doing with the Motion Picture Television Fund, but I know he loves Catherine. [and] the work you’re doing. “

“He always used to make fun of me. We would call him and he would say, ‘Enough, let me talk to your wife,'” Michael blurted out. “It was a flirtation to the end.”

“Oh yeah, it’s a great flirt,” Catherine added.
