Leslie Jordan has a dream collaborator when it comes to her gospel music. ET spoke to the actor at the ACM Awards on Sunday, where he discussed his new gospel album, The company comes, and having lunch with Kacey Musgraves.
Jordan released The company comes, a collection of classic and original gospel hymns, earlier this month. She spoke with ET’s Rachel Smith about how she landed collaborations with legends like Dolly Parton and Eddie Vedder.
“Well, all last year I made an album that I must tell you, I got off the bus in 1982 in downtown Hollywood and I wanted to be an actor, you know?” he shares. “And all of that has happened, but nowhere in that dream was oh, to record a gospel album. I’m not going to go into the way it happened, but it’s amazing and I recorded an old gospel album and I followed direct messages and asked. to everyone who could do it with me: Dolly, Tanya Tucker, Chris and Morgane Stapleton, … Brandi Carlile, Eddie Vedder. “
“First album ever and they just said, ‘Yeah sure,'” he continues. “So we recorded an album called The company comes and neither of us were in the same place, but it seems like we’re in the living room. We shout and praise the Lord and you wouldn’t believe it, it’s just wonderful, it’s so uplifting and fun. And the response has been overwhelming. “
Jordan said that he definitely plans to release a second album and would love to collaborate with Musgraves.
“Oh my gosh, I have lunch with Kacey Musgraves today and … and I thought, my gosh, you know, but I didn’t mention it,” he says. “And listen, on the other side was Fancy Hagood. And I thought, wouldn’t that be fun? I mean, just the people I know, it has to be something, it can’t just be someone to whom the producers come and go, ‘Here’ , and I don’t know them. You know, it has to be fun, so we’ve already planned a second. “
Jordan presented the Best Duo award at the ACMs that aired on CBS on Sunday and was presented by none other than Parton herself. The Will and grace The actor was not shy with ET about the possibility of winning an ACM award next year.
“They said, you know it’s too late to get a nomination this year and I was like, ‘Well I’ll go out there and kick up some dust, you know, I’ll open the door for next year.’
