The Academy Award for which Jared Leto won Dallas Buyers Club has been missing for years. However, he may soon have the opportunity to replace it with a new statuette, as the actor has so far been nominated for a Golden Globe and SAG Award for his performance in The little things, with a probable Oscar nomination, the second, on the horizon. It’s the icing on the cake for Leto, who says the real prize was working with Denzel Washington.
“I don’t know what it is about him in particular that I realized as a young actor, but I always wanted to see what he was going to do next,” Leto tells ET’s Kevin Frazier. “He’s always great. He always amazes you. He’s one of the few actors who’s really had that consistency, and he really puts his whole body, heart, and soul into every performance he does. So, the Denzel of everything was reward enough for me. “.
In The little things, Washington plays a sheriff, Joe “Deke” Deacon, as he investigates a series of murders suspected of being the work of Leto’s Albert Sparma. It’s another transformative turn for Leto, a challenging role both physically and psychologically, which he says is his “sweet spot.” But getting into the minds of the people who kill takes its toll.
“You spend time in a dark place, and materials, research can start to creep into your dreams at some point,” he explains. “For anyone, that’s like, bingeing Make a killer, at a certain point you need a break. You need to turn on King tiger or something.”
His next screen appearance delves into more of that darkness – he’s reprising his role as Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. (Aired on HBO Max on March 18) “It was a secret that I had to keep for so long that it feels fun to even talk about it,” says Leto. “[Snyder] he knows that world like no one … He cares deeply about the character. He cares a lot about the fans. He was happy to be a part of his journey and to retell that story and tell it the way he always dreamed of. And it was fun to get back into character. “
And then it’ll be another comic book movie, Morbius (available Jan 21, 2022), which sees Leto go from villain to antihero as the titular living vampire. “In Morbius, we will see a little more closely how I speak every day, “he notes, although the movie will see him transform once again.” He is a new Marvel character that has never appeared on screen before. so it was a blast. I play a doctor who is looking for a cure for his illness, who is very sick and frail and at the end of his life becomes strong and healthy, and has monstrous aspects. That excites me. “
Meanwhile, he is filming in Rome. Gucci house, in which he addresses an Italian accent to portray Paolo Gucci. “The one and only Ridley Scott is directing, one of my favorite directors of all time, with a cast that I’m impressed to be a part of,” Leto jokes. “There is Lady Gaga, or as I call her, Lady guhgah – the queen herself and just an excellent creative person and a great actress. Adam Driver is in the movie, again a phenomenal actor. Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and so on. It’s the Gucci story, which I didn’t even really know about, and I’ve worked closely with Gucci for many years. It’s wild. “
Leto may be deep in Gucci house – says this is usually the time when he gets really quiet, but he’s keeping one foot in awards season. “I am so excited about The little things“reception,” he says. “And the fact that people found something in Albert Sparma that was compelling, it’s just a great feeling. A great, great feeling, and I’m impressed.”
