Drew Barrymore is getting the latest surprise from David Letterman! On Monday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Letterman appears to surprise Barrymore in honor of his 46th birthday.
The sweet moment occurs when an emotional Barrymore thinks she’s on a Zoom call with Letterman, only for the TV personality to step out on the set of her show.
“I’m so thankful you’re here,” Barrymore tearfully tells Letterman in the clip, which aired exclusively on Entertainment Tonight.
“Let me tell you something. The Zoomer thing, it was my idea,” Letterman jokes in response.
Barrymore and Letterman are longtime friends, and the actress appears on Letterman. Late show 20 times. His most talked about appearance was in 1995, when he showed Letterman to mark his 48th birthday.
In 2015, Barrymore said Weekly entertainment that the flash was “completely spontaneous and not calculated in any way.” In the same interview, Barrymore revealed why he liked to appear in The late show when Letterman was the host. He retired from the show in 2015.
“I really wanted to go back. There is energy in his show. The more you tried to charm him, the less he wanted him. Either he liked you or not,” she said. “When you usually go to a talk show, he is very friend-friend. But with him you have to work hard. But not too much, because he won’t like that!”
