DMX will be honored by family, friends and fans at a public memorial service before his private funeral.
The public memorial will take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Saturday, April 24, before a private funeral at a New York City church on Sunday, April 25, according to multiple reports.
Public service details are still in the works, including support numbers and ticketing information. The Barclays Center has a capacity of 19,000, although COVID restrictions will require limited assistance, for Term. One of the last great DMX concerts took place at the Barclays Center in June 2019.
The GRAMMY-nominated artist died on April 9, days after being rushed to the hospital after a heart attack. He was 50 years old.
After being hospitalized, a source close to DMX told ET that medical staff “tried to resuscitate him twice at home and resuscitate him again at the hospital.”
On April 5, a vigil was held for the rapper, as he fought for his life. That day, ET spoke with Craig Brodhead, a member of the DMX management team and a friend of over 30 years who was one of approximately 500 people who gathered for the vigil.
In a statement to ET after his death, the DMX family honored him as a “warrior who fought to the end”.
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, whose birth name is Earl Simmons, passed away at age 50 at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being on life support for the past few days. “the statement read. “Earl was a warrior who fought to the end. He loved his family with all his heart and we cherish the time we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans around the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We cherish everything. love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we mourn the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. “
