Cinemex prepares indefinite closure in Mexico

The Mexican chain Cinemex, is preparing a indefinite closure of all its complexes. This decision was made due to the current pandemic of COVID-19, since the work has been difficult for almost a year.

The closure of movie theater complexes, caused that eIn 2020, box office revenues will plummet 80%, registering only 3.5 million pesos (about 175 thousand dollars), which affected the company greatly. Cinemex will have to close 2,541 theaters, seeking to decimate the losses that the pandemic has produced.

As reported by Canacine, during 2020 the number of moviegoers dropped to 12 million, which represents a fall of 96%, this referring to what was registered in 2019.

Cinemex is the second largest chain of movie theaters in Mexico, behind Cinépolis, which at the moment keeps working; Several of the complexes continue to work, although with reduced rooms and seats.
