Chrissy Teigen is opening up about her struggles with infertility. In a new interview with Refinery 29The model and entrepreneur said she didn’t realize how little was said until she started sharing her story.
“I have been very open throughout my life, and [infertility] It didn’t seem crazy to talk about it. But the more I talked about it, the more I realized how taboo it was, “Teigen said.” But quietly, he received direct messages and letters, such as handwritten letters, and emails. I realized that people didn’t think I could talk about it in an open forum, but they were happy to do so in private. I realized that people are not comfortable talking about this. “
The mother of two recently joined RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and Ferring Pharmaceuticals to launch Fertility out loud, a new campaign designed to help those struggling to start or grow their family. It is a cause that hits Teigen, who lost her son, Jack, when she was 20 weeks pregnant.
“In Thai culture, you are very open about death and you talk about death and loss, and when someone passes away, they are still an important part of your life,” Teigen explained. “I’ve been back and forth between that Thai tradition of keeping your loved one close, but also wanting to set them free and wanting them to be part of Earth again, I just want them spiritually to be part of the universe again.”
While she and her husband, John Legend, have not decided where and when they will scatter Jack’s ashes, Teigen shared that Legend has a song in the works that takes her back to that emotional moment. But despite the loss, she still feels that music heals and will release some of the pain that she and her family have been struggling with for the past year.
“Music for us is so healing, and I think it’s going to be a really beautiful summer and next year, with the possibility of releasing pain and loss. It’s going to be really transformative and amazing,” Teigen told the magazine.
“There was a moment that really blew me away, and it was being at the grocery store and someone just silently placing flowers in my cart,” she explained. “And then I realized that there are a lot of women who don’t get this kind of care because you just don’t know what happened to them.”
Teigen continued: “They are living this in private and in silence, and it was a great moment for me where I realized that I could be that person that people could see and admire as someone who had a platform, where their stories were going. to be recognized. For me, that was a very decisive moment. “
Despite her fertility struggles and being told she can no longer safely have a baby, Teigen still wants to expand her family, however it may seem.
“There are so many different ways to make your dream come true now,” he shared. Accepting the fact that I can’t reload has been a really difficult thing, and I’ve suffered because of that, because for me, it’s when I’m at my happiest. I loved being pregnant, and the fact that I was able to do it twice. , I think it was miraculous enough. “
“There is a way to have that beautiful child, whether it is yours or if you adopt him,” she added. “I think the more we share our stories, the more people will realize that they connect with one of those stories … There is something so beautiful about that.”
