Blake Shelton understands how unlikely it is that he and his fiancee Gwen Stefani got together. The 44-year-old country singer opened up about his recent engagement to his Voice co-star on Thursday The Last Show with Stephen Colbert.
“No one is more surprised by this than I am. It doesn’t make sense,” Shelton joked about their engagement. “I can see you’re looking at that photo right now and thinking, ‘What the hell is going on?'”
Colbert helped the pair up the shot by announcing their engagement, joking, “And he seems happy about it! At first I thought it was a challenge or something, he lost a bet. But he really seems happy here.”
Shelton found it funny and said to Colbert, “Go ahead, I can take it. I can take it. I get it. Trust me, I get it. However, you can’t blame me for not seizing the opportunity.”
The couple got engaged last fall after five years together.
Last month, Stefani admitted that before their engagement, she had been questioning where the relationship was going.
“I was like, ‘What’s going on with us?'” Tonight’s Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It was like in my mind, like, ‘We’ve been together for a long time. What’s going on?’ It was in that place in my head. “
