Is it more effective to duplicate face masks? Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci says double masking “probably does” help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
“This is a physical covering to prevent droplets and viruses from entering,” Fauci told the Today show on monday. “So if you have a physical cover with a layer, you put another layer on it, it just makes common sense that it’s probably more effective and that’s why you see people double-masking or doing a version of the N95.”
Shortly after the inauguration ceremony, President Joe Biden issued a national mask mandate, requiring the use of a mask for federal reasons.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend “that people wear masks in public places, such as on public and mass transportation, at events and meetings, and anywhere they are close to other people.” Additionally, the CDC recommends choosing masks that have two or more layers of breathable, washable fabric.
To ensure additional protection against illness for yourself and others around you, please choose wear two masks when you are in public spaces, either by wearing a disposable mask under a fabric one or by using breathable reusable masks. N95 respirators and surgical masks should be reserved for healthcare workers.
Next, shop for a selection of disposable masks and cloth masks to match.
