A new season of american idol it’s here!
Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan return to judges’ chairs Sunday Idol premiere, which also welcomes host Ryan Seacrest. ET exclusively premieres the new season opener, which offers a glimpse of aspiring singers hoping to make it big in Hollywood.
“What a time to be in the world,” Perry opens the premiere, followed by Bryan acknowledging the difficult times the country is currently facing: “We are all dealing with challenges and I am excited that fans can sit at home and enjoy american idol. “
Just as they are about to witness the first auditions of the season, Perry maintains an optimistic approach as he sits behind the stage. “Some other things are canceled. The silver lining is that dreams are not canceled,” to Bryan and Richie echoing their sentiments.
When one of the singers surprises the judges at his audition, Bryan makes a great comparison. “That should live up to the Kelly Clarkson audition,” he says of Idolwinner of season 1. High praise.
Television host and radio personality Bobby Bones is also returning as an internal mentor, a role he held last season.
Among the auditions this season is Claudia Conway, daughter of “high profile political figures” Kellyanne and George Conway, as revealed in a recent promo.
Last October, Perry opened up with ET’s Rachel Smith about returning to work after giving birth to their daughter, Daisy Dove, in August.
“It’s amazing. I am so grateful for this opportunity and for this work, and for being able to continue inspiring other people to pursue their dreams,” she said. “I mean, my life feels very full and complete. And you know, it’s a little difficult these first few days of absence and not being able to be there.”
“But Dad is doing a great job. Dad has stepped in,” Perry said of her fiancé Orlando Bloom. “I’ve seen the Bjorn in it, I’ve seen him with the bottle, I’ve seen all the photos. It’s all good.”
