“For the past eight years, we have had the great honor of bringing these wonderful characters to life, sharing their struggles and triumphs with millions of viewers each week,” Lorre, Baker and Bakay said in a joint statement. “From the beginning, we set out to tell stories about recovery from alcoholism and addiction that are rarely portrayed in a network comedy series. Whether it’s the emotional reactions from the live audience on the night of the film inside Stage 20, or the discussions at the White House about the opioid crisis, or the personal stories we continue to receive on social media, we are proud to know Mother it has positively impacted so many lives. We are forever grateful to our brilliant cast and guest stars, wonderful writers, and incredible crew for taking this journey with us. “
The sitcom’s cancellation comes six months after Faris abruptly left the show after seven seasons “to seek new opportunities,” leaving Janney, who won two Emmys for her performance, as the sole lead of season 8.

But she will not be there. That is what I will miss.”
