When it comes to Tarik and Hazel’s unconventional relationship in season 8 of 90 day fiancé, It’s complicated. In this exclusive clip from the second part of this season’s reveal special airing Sunday on TLC, Tarik defends his polyamorous relationship with his highly skeptical co-stars.
This season featured Hazel, who hails from the Philippines, moving to Virginia to marry Tarik. In addition to adjusting to life in the United States, Hazel also came out bisexual with her parents and wanted to have a girlfriend shared with Tarik. Unsurprisingly, the arrangement didn’t work out as well as they hoped. The couple got into trouble when Tarik continued talking to his ex-girlfriend, Minty, who is from Thailand, after Hazel specifically told him to cut off contact with her.
In this exclusive clip from the continuation of the tale, Tarik becomes defensive about his deal with Hazel when asked about it.
“There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of married couples doing exactly what we are doing,” he says. “The term is polyamory, please let me finish. And it is absolutely possible that two married people can have a boyfriend or girlfriend of their choice and still have a loving, moral and honest marriage like everyone else.”
But his partner 90 day fiancé co-stars make no secret of their judgment. Rebecca shakes her head, while Julia and Yara look on disapprovingly. Meanwhile, Zied notes, “Sorry, that’s not normal.”
Tarik responds: “She likes it. I like it. So we do what we want.”
However, his co-stars become even more skeptical when Tarik acknowledges that he has had this kind of relationship once in his past, before he started dating Hazel.
“Oh, now we have a true story,” says host Shaun Robinson as the rest of the cast laugh.
Still, Hazel insists that she is glad her husband has had past experiences.
“I feel like when we have a girlfriend one day, he knows what to do, how to treat two girls, how to treat two girls at the same time, so it’s good that, you know, he has an experience like that,” Hazel explains. .
At this point, Rebecca can no longer help herself, interjecting some incredulous curses.
