Adam Levine plays Matchmaker for Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton on T-Mobile Super Bowl Spot

It turns out that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s famous romance was due to a misunderstanding. The cute couple appears, alongside Adam Levine, in T-Mobile’s hilarious star-studded Super Bowl ad that aired during Sunday’s big game.

The commercial is set “a few years ago” and shows Stefani talking to Levine via video chat.

“I think I’m ready to start dating again,” Stefani tells Levine. “I’m sick of the guys from Los Angeles. I want someone completely different. Maybe from another country. And someone cultured and sensitive and not threatened by a strong and confident woman.”

However, due to a spotty network and a bad connection, what Levine heard Stefani say was, “I’m sick of LA boys. I want someone completely rural, uneducated, and threatened by a strong, confident woman.”

Levine was having lunch with someone he thought fit the bill: his best friend and ex Voice co-star.

Levine plays matchmaker and the two meet for a first date dinner: Stefani in a zebra print dress and Shelton in a denim rocking chair and spurs on her boots.

“Oh my gosh, hilarious right?” Stefani says, to Shelton’s confusion. “I mean, no.”

After turning it off, Stefani asks, “Are they spurs? Did you ride a horse here?”

“Yes,” Shelton replied, as if it were the only logical means of transportation.

While T-Mobile’s connection seems to imply that it doesn’t want to entrust its love life to a spotty wireless network, things seemed to work out for Stefani and Shelton, who got engaged in October after nearly five years of dating.
