Adam Levine objects. The 42-year-old Maroon 5 frontman is on Thursday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show and is asked about the impending nuptials of his friends and Voice coaches, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
“I don’t support their marriage,” Levine jokes. “She’s so cool and he’s not.”
Host DeGeneres tries to defend the country singer and says of Shelton, “He’s not great, but he’s very funny and very smart.”
“He’s vaguely charming,” Levine acknowledges, before joking, “I miss this. I missed making fun of him so much.”
As for his partner’s big day, Levine still plans to attend.
“I’ll go to the wedding and object,” he jokes. “They probably won’t invite me now that I’m saying this on live TV, but I’ll be there somehow.”
Shelton previously said during a December appearance on Late night with Seth Meyers that she plans to have the “Sugar” singer perform at her wedding.
“I’ve decided I’ve been doing this for a long time and I have a lot of favors out there,” Shelton said at the time. “He may not like it, but Adam Levine is going to have to get the band together and come play at our wedding.”
In March, Levine responded to his friend’s statement during an appearance on The morning puree, revealing that he saw the interview when it aired.
“He says, ‘Yeah, I’m going to have Adam Levine come play, he doesn’t know it yet,’ and I’m kind of sitting on the bed eating popcorn and I’m like, ‘Man, fuck you, I’m not going to play in your wedding, ‘”Levine joked at the time.
