Happy Birthday to Meghan Markle! The Duchess of Sussex turned 41 on Thursday and is already receiving warm wishes from her in-laws in the royal family.
Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a photo of Meghan smiling in a white hat and coat on Twitter, along with the message, “Happy Birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!”
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also posted, “Happy Birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!”
Since Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, her relationships with the royals haven’t always been smooth. Royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET in June that there have been recent attempts to improve the momentum within the family, especially with Meghan and Harry welcoming two young children.
Charles and Camilla had an emotional rendezvous with Archie, 3, and Lillibet, 1, earlier this summer, amid Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This was the first time Charles had seen Archie in some time and the first time he had met Lily.
“I think a lot of people don’t see Charles as a doting grandfather, but he absolutely is,” Nicole told ET. “He has spent more time with the Cambridges’ grandchildren in recent years and he looks forward to building a closer relationship with Meghan and Harry’s children.”
According to Nicole, Charles “deeply cherishes these times with his grandchildren” and he is “deeply sad that there aren’t enough of them with Archie and Lillibet” as Harry and Meghan relocated to California in 2020.
“I know Charles absolutely wants to start fixing that broken relationship with Harry,” Nicole said, adding that the private meeting was likely “the very beginning” of their efforts and “paves the way for some more reconciliation talks.” did.”
“He loves his son but he wants to forgive his son for everything. He wants to mend that relationship and move on,” Nicole said. “A big part of that is that he wants to be a grandfather and see those grandchildren. That might mean a few more transatlantic trips, but he wants to enjoy the experience.”
