Thirty years after his debut album, George Drexler retains his enthusiasm, his ability to surprise, and his freshness when composing. Always attentive to the exchange of ideas and reflection, the musician chews on the concept and explains: “Yes, it’s a possible confirmation and a very sharp assumption. -Did this concept come to you before, or when reporting and describing albums?
-In many cases, the concept is a cane or an excuse. When you present an album there is more to talk about than the album itself. There was no production plan here. – At what point did you feel that the pieces fit together and you already have an album?
-Now I halfway through that it took me two years and two weeks to make the album, because it took me two years to think I didn’t have it ready, and then two weeks where everything was put together Was. Even the most distinctive elements were recorded by chance and were decisive, such as the orchestra, because one day I called Fernando Velázquez to ask for an arrangement, and the next day he told me that the Madrid Orchestra had quit And it was three days off.

Suddenly you had an orchestra at your disposal.
-Yes! “Let’s make records with an orchestra!” I told him. One day he brought me a song arrangement The Masterplan And I realized that it was an explosion of colors that I didn’t need. I only come from making an album with guitar (ice lifebuoy), something that would have been ideal for the pandemic, but he didn’t want to repeat the same joke.
You guessed the lack of options and the limits of the force.
-Sure. And now the idea of scarcity didn’t work for me, so in those last weeks I asked it to be lush, that it looked expensive, as if it had too many resources and too many people. I’ll tell you more: when we went to the Latin Grammys with C Tangana we still didn’t record anything with the orchestra and the basses weren’t complete. And two weeks after returning from Las Vegas, the album was already in its place.
– There you made the last stitch.
-Yes. On the last day we put out two songs and there were ten left, a round number with a total of 35 minutes and five songs on each side of a vinyl. Somebody told me it’s too short, so I started looking for records less than 40 minutes long and found stir, of The Beatles. And I stayed calm because it’s my favorite album.

New tour details
It has been said on several occasions during the past few months that the show at the Gran Rex in Buenos Aires will be the start of a new world tour.

– How is that format?
– The stage is very bare. I am going to have three men and three women facing each other, with a central aisle, as if the stage was divided by a river or a musical blank page, like an album cover. Then there will be redistribution, but that will be the pivot. The good news is that you make eye contact with the people you’re playing with. Plus you have half the public, but we’ll all see each other.
There are usually other musicians behind you.
Normally you don’t see anything and you are like without the notion of the band. It is a very innovative approach, focusing on female energy, a distinct melody and the presence of musicians with significant solo projects. This will also be the first time we’re going to work without a floor monitor, all with headphones, something I’ve never used.
