Two Orange County, Florida sheriff’s deputys were found guilty of disseminating information about Bob Saget’s death before his wife, Kelly Rizzo, was able to obtain information about her husband’s passing.
ET obtained an internal investigation report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office detailing the spread of Saget’s death on social media from staff before the sheriff’s office’s public information officer provided an official release.
According to the report, deputy Emiliano Silva and Steven Reid violated the department’s dissemination of information directives by telling their friends and family members, who then posted the information on social media.
Deputy Silva writes to his brother that Bob Saget is dead. Her brother then tweeted the information, saying, “RIP Bob Saget.”
The Sheriff’s Communications Department determined that this tweet was posted before Saget’s family was informed of his death, before the Sheriff’s Office issued an official media release and before the murder unit or medical examiner even arrived at the scene. .
In the meantime, Kelly Rizzo has not received any information from the hotel or the police about Saget’s condition and whether or not he was alive. She also started getting calls from the media to confirm what was happening to her husband.
For his part, Silva claimed he didn’t know his brother took that information to Twitter, saying he “had no ill intentions, but he shouldn’t have said anything.”
Fellow Deputy Steven Reid was found guilty of confirming news of Saget’s death to a friend of his who had attended Saget’s comedy, which was set on the night of his passing.
According to the report, Deputy Reid was not involved in the investigation into Saget’s death and was unaware that Saget’s family had yet been notified, but acknowledged that he would not release confidential information about the investigation to anyone. did not have the right to do so.
Both the deputies have been suspended for 81 hours for their role in the case.
Bob Saget died on January 9 in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida. He was 65 years old.
The comedian was recently honored with the Impact Award during the 4th Annual Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards. During the ceremony, Rizzo became emotional as she accepted the award on behalf of her husband.
“Bob’s incredible daughters and I are so honored to be able to accept this on Bob’s behalf. And it’s so bitter, because it still is … it’s so real,” she said. “You look at him, and you look at him, and you’re like, ‘Bob was larger than life.’ He was so full of life. He was a force of nature. And you look at him, and you’re like, ‘How come he’s not on stage right now?’ It still doesn’t make sense. It still doesn’t really count.”
