The plot of the film Have more respect from your motherstarring Florencia Peña and Diego Peretti, is based on the popular blog by Hernán Casciari, who, together with Christian Basili, was in charge of shaping an idea by Nacho Laviaguerre, producer of the successful play starring Antonio Gasalla, which reaped over a million viewers, for several seasons.
The story begins with the arrival in Genoa, back in the early 20th century, of Américo Bertotti (Diego Peretti), who pins his hopes on helping build a new country. In pursuit of his dreams of progress, he settles in Mercedes, province of Buenos Aires where founded a traditional pizzeria.
A hope nestles in his soul: that entrepreneurship eludes the vicissitudes of history and that arrives, carrying the Italian tradition, to the year 2000. A difficult dream, above all because of the social and economic transformations that our country has suffered over so many years.
Diego Peretti, characterized for the film “More respect that I am your mother”.
The adventures continue the last three days of December 1999 and are centered on the descendants of the Bertotti, being Mirta González de Bertotti (Florencia Peña), the maximum exponent of the authentic matriarch always attentive to solve family problems.
Her husband Zacharias (William Arengo), has been fired after twenty years of working in the same company and they have three children, the studious José María (Bruno Giganti) and two somewhat wayward offspring, the adolescent Sofía (Angela Torres) and the rebel Caio (Agustin Battioni).
With 51 years on her back, Mirta protects the home nest with the shield of her immeasurable affection, although the situation is so critical that her eldest son gives up a scholarship abroad, to help with the downtrodden finances of the home. To add insult to injury the nono is not in good health and the business is languishing with just a couple of clients.
Florencia Peña shines in “More respect than I am your mother”.
But despite everything, the spark of hope lights up, and these dysfunctional beings, like so many in any corner of the planet, put their hands to work to carry out Américo’s wish. Mirta takes the reins with her pigeons and adds the help of some parishioners, to revitalize the place, wash the faces of the walls and put the wood oven into operation.
Grotesque, excesses and black humor
Obviously we will not tell here how the story progresses and concludes, we will only say that this welcome comedy of manners, which immediately refer to the classic Waiting for the carriageis lavish in excesses, underlines and even a bit of black humor nuanced by the very good music of Gerardo Gardelin.
Welcome the discoveries of script and direction, especially the soliloquies of the protagonist in front of cameras and the unification of the comedic tone of the entire castin this successful x-ray of our idiosyncrasy.
El nono (Diego Peretti), leading the cast of “More respect than I am your mother.” There are great performances by him and by Florencia Peña (in the back).
To highlight, the absolute dedication of Peña, a kind of volcanic Sofia Loren on screen and the always effective Peretti, who after a successful makeup designed by Karina Camporino, with characterization specialist María Celeste Caparelli, is transformed into an endearing old man.
