Depp later said that he had sent “the first of many installments” to Heard’s chosen charity.

A member of Heard’s team said in a statement at the time, “Amber Heard appreciates Johnny Depp’s novel interest in supporting two of his favorite charities, the ACLU for Domestic Violence and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Good and unexpected news.” “However, if Johnny wants to change the settlement agreement, we must emphasize that he honors the full amount by donating $14M to charity, which, after accounting for his tax deductions, to Amber. equal to his $7M payment obligation. We will also insist that the full amount be paid immediately and not be withdrawn over several years.”

Dougherty testified that the ACLU received a $500,000 donation from a donor-advised fund at Vanguard. Dougherty said he believed the donor should be Musk, adding that the Tesla founder had emailed the organization about the donation. ET has reached out to Musk for comment.

Dougherty said that, out of Hurd’s $3.5 million pledge, the ACLU received a total of $1.3 million. Payments were made from a $350,000 payment from Hurd, a $100,000 payment from Depp, and a $350,000 payment from a donor-aided fund at Fidelity, as well as a $500,000 payment from a donor-aided fund at Vanguard.
