Elliot Page has been opening up about his life since coming out as trans, and focusing on the joy he feels in embracing his truth and his happiness.
The actor sat down with Seth Meyers on Tuesday late nightand opened up about coming out in December 2020, and the journey she’s on — including her character in Netflix Umbrella Academy Also transitioned into the upcoming third season.
According to Page, he was a part of the process of crafting that development for the character — and it was a development entirely adopted by creator Steve Blackman.
“When we first talked about it, he seemed really excited to have it on the show,” Page shared, adding that he also collaborated with trans writer and journalist Thomas Page McBee, Joe “came on board and helped and I’m proud of it. It and I’m excited for people to see it.”
Page spoke with Meyers about his transformation, and in particular the feedback he received from those closest to him, which Page described as overwhelmingly helpful.
“I feel really grateful for this,” Page shared. “mostly people [in my life] Were not surprised.”
As for some of the negative feedback he’s received — mainly from strangers he’s never actually met — Page said he’s trying not to get bogged down in the negativity.
“What I want to focus on right now, and have been so extraordinary, is the degree of happiness that I feel, the degree of presence that I feel. I feel like I’ve spent a really long, long time.” never thought possible,” Page said. “That’s really what I’m focusing on and embracing the most.”
“Of course, some moments can be overwhelming,” he admitted. ,[And] I think it’s very unfortunate because we’re all on the same team here, you know? Whether you are trans, non-binary, cis, we all have these expectations and these limits and constraints…
Page also said that, since the transition, he has found himself able to connect with the world and his work as an actor.
“I think it has made me better in many aspects,” he said. “As a person, as a friend, and in relationships … it has improved my life tremendously, and I hope those who have a problem with me can try and listen. and can accept it at some level.”
Fans will get a chance to see the page in new episodes of Umbrella Academy When Season 3 arrives on Netflix on June 22.
