Elizabeth Banks Shares Why She Cried in the Shower After Her First Day Hosting ‘Press Your Luck’ (Exclusive)

Elizabeth Banks recalls she was in tears after hosting her first game show on ABC press your luck, Yes, the actress grew up watching game shows as a child, but not because she became emotional. It was watching the contestants realize their Nightmares.

The 48-year-old actress, director, and producer gave ET’s Matt Cohen a behind-the-scenes look at the set of the 1980s game show revival, which ran for three seasons on CBS before being canceled in 1986. “I remember my first show, I went home afterward,” Banks recalled, “I was in the shower. My husband came over and said, ‘How’s the show?’ And I said, ‘Honey…’ and I actually started crying in the shower after my first show because I couldn’t believe I was on stage, and at one point a contestant, I was wiping tears from their eyes It was because they were very emotional. And I was very emotional. I thought, What a wonderful time this is. I get a chance to change people’s lives in this show.”

Before appearing on the set of ET, Banks said that just a few hours earlier, a contestant had brought in a sum of about $1 million.

“It’s very exciting,” she says. “It’s one of my favorite things about this show. We change people’s lives. It’s incredible.”

Banks, who were named hosts in May 2019, said press your luck He and his sister should have watched TV.

“After school, my sister and I would come home and we would see press your luck, and we loved the dhammas because they’re animated and they’re so silly. And at the same time, we realized that the questions were pop culture stuff that we could probably spin.”

The show pitches itself as “a game of wit, strategy and high stakes as contestants try to escape the coveted WHAMMY for a chance at life-changing cash and prizes.”
