Taylor Swift made sure Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink were among the first people she contacted All Too Well: The Short Film Five VMA nominations were caught. ET’s Will Marfuggi spoke to O’Brien on Thursday, and the 30-year-old actor revealed how he learned that the short film for a 10-minute version of Swift’s iconic song, was up for multiple awards.
O’Brien told ET of Swift, who directed the film, and Sink, who starred in it with the actor, said, “We were just texting the other day. We have a little group chat, me, Taylor and Sadie.”
“She’s so real,” added Swift, the actor. “She sent us the news first thing in the morning. She’s really just someone who is so involved and proud of her work and so grateful for any accomplishment or recognition that she has just put herself in. About a special human being Let me talk.”
O’Brien’s admiration for Swift means he’ll be thrilled to be reunited with the director and his co-star at the awards ceremony next month. “I would love to go to the VMAs,” he told ET. It’s been a long time.’
As if he’d be working with Swift again in the future, O’Brien didn’t have to think at all before replying emphatic.
“Yeah, absolutely. She would make a really, really good director. If it’s something that she has at her heart, Taylor can do whatever she wants,” he said. “She could easily direct a feature and it would be something I would definitely sign up for.”
For now, though, O’Brien is busy promoting his new film, Not good, in which he stars alongside Zoey Dutch. The film follows influential Danny Sanders (Dutch) as he travels to Paris to gain followers. But when a terrorist attack happens and everyone mistakenly assumes that Danny is one of the survivors, she finds herself implicated in a dangerous lie.
“Professionally, she’s so smart and she’s working so incredibly hard. She’s easily one of the hardest working people out there. I think she’s not just an actor, but things.” K’s also smart on the business side. I think he’s knowledgeable. He’s a tycoon. And I just love him as a person,” O’Brien said of Dutch. “He’s a really special human being. Those are the people you hold onto if you’re lucky enough to be with him and whenever I get the opportunity to work with him, I’m sure I’m going to take it. “
O’Brien was excited to undergo a physical transformation for the film, in which he played a blond, taut character named Colin.
He said, “I was like, why not? Let’s go. I enjoyed it. It’s something I’m not used to showing up with, I guess. I loved getting into character.” “It’s kind of funny because that’s part of the whole premise and especially in terms of this character’s role in this world, what’s our obsession with these features, our obsession with rings, chains, hair, bats. What is… what is it? What are we so attracted to about it? It’s so funny I was pissed off her exam and I fell in love with it too. Like, I get it. It’s dope. Me I look better!”
Not good Hulu will begin streaming on July 29.
