Dua Lipa awarded the title of Kosovo from her country

Dua Lipa has been named as the ambassador of Kosovo! The “levitating” singer, who has been vocal about her support for the Balkan country where she spent most of her childhood, was honored with the title on Friday.

Taking to Instagram to share the news and post a photo with Kosovo’s President, Vojosa Osmani-Sadryu, Lipa wrote, “Yesterday afternoon I was honored with the title of Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo by our Madam President.”

The Grammy-winning singer continued, “It is an honor and a privilege to be able to represent my country all over the world and to continue my work and efforts on a global scale to see that we make our mark. Leave and make a difference. The youth of Kosovo are entitled. The right to visa liberalisation, the right to travel and dream big. Thank you.”

The President also shared a carousel of photographs from the event, where he decorated Lipa with a special medal. In a caption that has been translated from Albanian to English, Osmani-Sadryu wrote, “Today, I conferred the title of Honorary Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Dua Lipa, as she continues to honor our country at every step and in every form . ,

Noting LIPA’s global impact, the president continued, “On behalf of all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, I thank them for what they have done and our voices are being heard everywhere in the world.”

Although the pop star was born in London, England, her family moved back to their home country in 2008 when the republic declared independence.

In addition to Dua Lipa’s extensive list of accolades – which includes six Brit Awards, three Grammy Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, two Billboard Music Awards and many more – she has been a prominent advocate for the arts in Kosovo. Lipa and her father, Dukagjin Lipa, founded the Sunny Hill Festival, a four-day concert in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.
