The Disney + coming-of-age comedy-drama, starring Peyton Elizabeth Lee, reimagines the classic 1990s sitcom and follows 16-year-old Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha as she juggles a nascent medical career and a teenage life. The series will air on Wednesday, September 8, with new episodes each week.
Guiding Lahela is her family, including her Irish mother, Dr Clara Hannon (Kathleen Rose Perkins), who is also her supervisor at the hospital, and her Hawaiian father, Benny (Jason Scott Lee), who finds it difficult to come to terms with that his daughter is no longer his granddaughter. His free-spirited older brother, Kai (Matthew Sato), his gregarious younger brother, Brian Patrick (Wes Tian), his best friend, Steph (Emma Meisel), his surfer crush, Walter (Alex Aiono) and his colleague from the hospital. workers, Dr. Lee (Ronny Chieng), Charles (Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman) and Noelani (Mapuana Makia) complete the package.
Located in today’s Hawaii, Doogie Kamealoha, MD. is shot on location in Oahu.

The original Doogie howser ran for four seasons on ABC from 1989 to 1993, and played Neil Patrick Harris like the iconic child doctor. The character was Harris’ breakout role.
