The 2022 Billboard Music Awards Are Going To Be A Sister Party! On Sunday, the 52-year-old mogul is set to host the big night of music, and it’s one to remember.
Diddy told ET’s Kevin Frazier, “I thought it was time for me to come back out, re-introduce myself to the world, and throw music’s biggest night ever.” “I’m one of the greatest hosts in the world. You know, I love to entertain.”
For the awards show, Diddy is drawing inspiration from one of the best showmen in the world, and one of her biggest inspirations – PT Barnum.
“This time you’ll see that personal side of me and it’s electrifying,” he says. “I’m telling you, it’s electrifying. You know, PT Barnum is my muse so I’m going to have a surprise night. I want to ruin the internet.”
Diddy’s Billboard Music Awards party is already filled with performances from Silk Sonic, Megan Thee Stallion, Travis Scott, and more. Hitmaker promises that it will be a true celebration of the artists who are nominated and taking the stage.
“It really is a celebration of life and it is a night that is rooted in love and love wins,” he says. “That’s the energy we’re bringing in. We’re bringing the festivities because look, we’re out, we’re talking without masks. I’m going to hold us shut in praise and gratitude. For the chance to be nominated To make your dreams come true, rise on stage and be grateful for what we do.”
And it wouldn’t be a sister party without some friendly competition. captive The host said he’s bringing that energy with him as he personally ranks the cast of the night.
“I’m going to rate the performances myself,” he says. “I’m the ‘Making the Band’ Diddy out there.”
During the show, Mary J. Blige will be the recipient of this year’s Icon Award, and for Didi, it’s a special moment. “It means everything to me. It’s my sister. She’s the first artist who believed in me,” he says. “It’s really, really a full-circle moment. It’s really a time of celebration and to be, you know, when she’s receiving her Icon Award and it’s just going to be a beautiful night.”
Diddy received her first Billboard musical Ward in 1995 with artist and best friend, Biggie. “It’s the first award we got, that’s why it was such an important night,” says the rapper. “It’s such an authentic connection to me and now with the Billboard Awards.”
“Had it been another awards show, we would not have got this award. But they persuaded us. I remember Biggie was so excited, she almost collapsed. He was like, ‘We did.’ He was running towards the stage. So it was like an incredible moment,” Didi recalls.
And Diddy is determined to make sure this year’s show is just as incredible. “The night for me, personally too, is such a big night. It’s not a gig for me. I don’t need to do this. It’s something I want to do,” he says. “I can’t wait to see people, to feel people, ’cause he got away from us. I am just living in so much gratitude. I just have a lot of things I want to do. I have to work a lot. I’m here to change the world and it’s like my party to come.”
Didi is also gearing up to make a comeback in music. This week, the entertainer announced that he is launching his own record label, Love Records — focusing on R&B.
“I wanted to bring back real R&B so I decided to start my own label, Love Records,” he shares. “It’s also really me coming back to what I love. I have to decide what I’m going to do in my next era. What I like. I love making music so I’m back in music.” . I have an album coming out, I only have one coming out.”
He continued, “It’s really an evolution of my sound. It definitely has elements of all my hit records, from Jodesi, from Mary J. Blige. You know, all great. Faith Evans, 112. All great R’s.” &B stuff you love. The comeback is real and I’m better. I’m better as a producer. I’m here to touch souls.”
